The father of an intermediate school pupil has reported the school principal to police for allegedly brutally beating his son with a cane. The father, who reported the incident to police in south Jeddah, said that his son was brutally beaten in front of other students and teaching staff in the school playground. “My son was by the bathrooms preparing for prayer with the other students as usual when the school principal suddenly came running towards him, pushed him against the playground wall, and started beating him in full view of teachers and pupils until his cane broke,” the father said in his complaint. “He then requested another cane be brought.” The principal reportedly resumed the beating with a new cane. “I went to the school and met the principal, but he refused to talk to me about the issue,” the father added. Police took the pupil to a Jeddah hospital, where doctors described him as suffering from bruising to his left thigh and both hands.
