The center for treatment of tumors and blood diseases in Jeddah in cooperation with the Saudi Lung Cancer Association and a charity organization will organize a medical symposium here on Wednesday under the theme “New diagnosis and treatment in lung tumors.” Several experts are scheduled to attend the meeting which aims to raise awareness about the hazards of smoking. A recent survey has shown an alarming increase in the number of lung cancer cases in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Qari Abdul Rahim, a hematology and oncology consultant and director of the center for the treatment of tumors and blood diseases, said, two percent more people develop the smoking habit per annum. And women are also picking up this dangerous habit, he added. “Our goal is to introduce a simple scientific awareness program,” said Dr. Abdul Rahim. Unfortunately, he said, the Kingdom is ranked third among countries importing tobacco.
