A Saudi man has taken it upon himself to restore a historic village in the Al-Baha region of Baljurashi. Abdan Al-Buhairi has renovated and repainted buildings, repaired doors and installed street lights in the village of Dar Al-Souq all from his own pocket. Al-Buhairi said he wanted to display the history of the village, which he says goes back hundreds of years. “The village used to be something of a center with government departments and markets,” he said, “It was left abandoned and needed some care.” The Director of the Saudi Commission of Tourism and Antiquities office in Al-Baha said the village was an important regional tourist site and that the commission would do everything in its power to preserve it. Dar Al-Souq is located in the south of Al-Baha at approximately 2,100 meters above sea level. It is well known for its old stone buildings with roofs made from the trunks of palm trees and wooden doors decorated with carvings.
