The government has decided to allow the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H), a leading opponent of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of Altaf Hussain, to resume its political activities, said a news report. At the same time, the government has decided to take strict measures for maintaining law and order in Karachi and averting the incidents like the ones that occurred on May 12 last year and April 9, English daily The News reported. “The MQM-H has been pushed to the wall under the Musharraf regime,” the report said quoting an unnamed official source. He said the government has decided to release top MQM-H leader Afaq Ahmed and Amir Khan. The Sindh government will review the cases instituted against the two leaders who would be exonerated where their involvement could not be proved. “The MQM-H headquarters, Bait-ul-Hamza, which was demolished in Oct. 2002, will be reconstructed,” the sources said. He added that establishment of lasting peace in Karachi is one of the top priorities of the government though it is a difficult task. He said the government is determined not to yield to any political expediency in the achievement of this objective. Three main characters in the security apparatus - Rehman Malik, Dr. Shoaib Suddle and Tariq Lodhi - have been assigned the task of establishing peace in Karachi. The source said the government has decided to adopt the same policy, which was implemented by the last government of the Pakistan People's Party for maintaining peace in Karachi. The source said the police officers, who have been involved in maintaining law and order in Karachi, would be re-appointed soon. The government's move came a day after talks between the MQM and PPP failed and the former decided to sit in the opposition. __
