Salem, a Saudi student on a government scholarship to Japan, has become the first foreign Bachelor of Arts student to be admitted to the Toyota University of Technology. Al-Salem has already begun his studies in materials engineering at the university which is rated as one of the top six in Japan. Around 30 percent of foreign applicants to Japanese universities are turned down, prompting the Saudi Embassy to organize lectures and programs that have led to the admission of 105 Saudis to Japanese universities after two years of language study.
