squandering Internet spoof character Dan Power is back, this time armed with a music video to promote Energy Wasting Day 2009. Apr. 1 marks the second annual Energy Wasting Day, and the irrepressible Power has released the world's first “anti-eco” music download to mark the occasion. “I got a car that burns up energy, it's fast and red and cool. I got a house that's leaking heat all day. I think that Al Gore is a fool,” Power sings on his website as he dances around gas-burning patio heaters with girls in yellow pants and red t-shirts bearing the logo “Polar Bears - Who Cares?” The April Fool's Day spoof video is designed to promote awareness on climate change. “We launched Energy Wasting Day two years ago with a range of corporate brands and NGOs to help make it easier for consumers to fight climate change in their day-to-day lives,” said Tom Gribbin, campaign manager at The Climate Group. “We thought: ‘Let's turn all this climate change doom and gloom on its head' and created this spoof character and his campaign to raise awareness of how crazy it is to waste energy.” The campaign is organized by Together, a movement launched by The Climate Group along with companies and non-governmental organizations including Tesco and environmentalists WWF to promote energy efficiency to consumers. The Energy Wasting Day website sells downloads of the song and the “Polar Bears - Who Cares?” t-shirts. Last year, over half a million people watched Dan Power launch the inaugural Energy Wasting Day on internet video website YouTube.com
