The Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice – the Hai'a – has handed over three Asian women, two of whom were found to be HIV-positive, to authorities after they were reportedly caught “engaged in prostitution in an attempt to spread the HIV virus among young people of various nationalities.” Hai'a chief in Makkah Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad Al-Du'eilij said that two women of East Asian origin, one of whom had fled from her sponsor and the other who was living here illegally, had been arrested for prostitution, an activity they arranged through another woman of a different nationality. The two women reportedly confessed to being HIV-positive and intending to spread HIV to other people. The Hai'a found in their possession photographs of men of various nationalities, as well as sexual stimulant pills, condoms and contraceptive pills.
