With the Indian general election less than a month away, expatriate groups have started forming election committees across the Kingdom in order to urge their families back home to cast votes for their party candidates. The United Democratic Front (UDF), an ally of the Indian Union Muslim League and Indian National Congress, has formed an election campaign committee in Eastern Province. Former Kerala minister A. P. Anil Kumar inaugurated the new UDF committee during his visit to Dammam recently. The expat community group KMCC and the Indian National Overseas Congress (INOC) supporters will work together to call their families and friends to vote for their candidates. During the UDF election campaign committee inauguration meeting held at Badr Al-Rabie Auditorium here, former minister Kumar said that the expatriate community has an important role and responsibility in the election campaign. He asserted that there was an urgent need to bring about the downfall of avowed anti-Muslim party BJP to safeguard the country from communal and terrorist violence. “The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Center will be victorious in the coming Lokh Sabha elections and Sonia Gandhi will continue to be the UPA chairperson and Manmohan Singh will be the next prime minister of India,” he said. Umar Irikkoor (Chairman), Jawad Mouvlavi (Convenor) have been appointed to the new UDF EPSA election campaign committee. Many political leaders have started visiting various cities in the Kingdom in order to gather support and to urge expats to encourage their families in India to vote.
