Several universities in Saudi Arabia are planning to include material on human rights in their curricula for the next academic year. Dr. Mifleh Al-Qahtani, head of the National Society for Human Rights, said a workshop was recently conducted for teaching human rights in higher education institutions and all military and private collages. He said recommendations from the workshop were sent to King Abdullah and to the Minister for Higher Education. They have instructed universities to study them, Al-Qahtani said. “The workshop aimed to determine the best way to teach human rights in higher education institutions,” he said. The universities, he added, are now studying the modalities of the new subject. He expected the universities to start applying the new curriculum in the first semester of the next academic year.
