Acting on the complaint of a Saudi man, Health Affairs in Baha is investigating the claim that doctors of the Pediatric and Maternity Hospital in Baljorashi committed medical errors in the treatment of an infant. The complaint said that the incorrect treatment of the child caused him to develop leukemia and a paralysis on the left side of his body. Dr. Jameel Al-Ghamdi, director of the hospital, said the treatment of the child was carried out under the previous management of the hospital. Abdullah Mohammad Al-Kath'ami's complaint said doctors repeatedly misdiagnosed the infant's condition. He said he brought his son, Abdullah, to the hospital six months ago suffering from a high temperature. Doctors decided to hospitalize the child three times – the first for more than 11 days, the second for 7 days and the third for 13 days – and told the father that his son was sound and that “it happens to all children” and gave the child suppositories to lower his temperature. “I went to Bisha Hospital where doctors told me that my son has leukemia and was partially paralyzed because the high body temperature had led to a stroke,” Al-Kath'ami said. He added that the hospital in Bisha referred his son to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh where the boy was diagnosed as suffering from severe leukemia and was stated to be in need of intensive chemical treatment followed by a bone marrow transplant.
