Germany's Marcel Siem stayed unusually calm to take the Andalucia Open second round lead on Friday while 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie slipped back after a level-par 72. Siem hit seven birdies in a five-under-par 67 to finish nine-under on 135, one ahead of Briton Graeme Storm (66) and Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin (69) who wasted the chance to claim a share of the lead with a three-putt bogey on 18. Montgomerie, playing his 500th European Tour event as a professional, also bogeyed the last as the sunny disposition he displayed after his opening 67 melted away. “I played very poorly, just completely out of synch,” the eight-time European number one told reporters after finishing on 139. Leader Siem is renowned as having an even shorter fuse than Montgomerie but is trying to remain on an even-keel as he chases his second individual tour title after winning the 2004 Dunhill Championship in South Africa. Twice US Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, trying to gauge his fitness for next month's Augusta event after spending two years battling against rheumatism, missed the cut on four-over 148. “It wasn't my health, I just played badly, simple as that,” said the Spaniard.
