Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 03 - 2009

flydubai, Dubai's first low cost airline, unveiled on Tuesday the details of its plans to bring a fresh new approach to air travel in the region, offering an easy and affordable way to travel.
The low cost airline, set to launch mid-2009, presents its product offering on how to ‘flydubai' - important features include seat pricing inclusive of all taxes and a generous hand baggage allowance of 10kgs, unmatched in the region. Passengers only have to pay for the optional extras they choose, such as checked baggage (up to 32kgs), seat selection, as well as food and beverages.
The airline has simplified the check-in process by issuing boarding passes instead of paper or e-tickets, which means passengers are checked-in once their booking is paid for. Passengers will be able to book online at flydubai.com at no charge or through the flydubai call centeror one of its travel partners for a small fee. flydubai's new website, complete with full information and booking facilities, will be available soon.
CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith, commenting on the new airline's approach to making travel the flydubai way less complex, less stressful and less expensive, said: “As a true low cost airline, we have looked very hard at ways to make our operations more efficient. If we find a cost that can be eliminated, we will - with the savings passed onto our customers.”
“We are very confident flydubai will bring a fresh approach to the budget airline sector and change the way people travel. By keeping things simple we will be able to provide an easier and more affordable travel experience. This will mean more people can get together with family and friends more often,” he said.
flydubai will be based at Dubai International Airport, flying from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of the airport. It will fly a fleet of Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft, with 189 economy seats, to popular destinations within 4.5 hours flying time of Dubai. An announcement about routes and prices will be made shortly.
The new airline is rapidly gearing up for its launch, having just announced the appointment of over 60 captains, 18 first officers and 80 cabin crew after being inundated with over 11,500 applicants from around the world.
Established in March 2008 with start-up capital of AED 250 million, flydubai is Dubai's first low cost airline.
