A gathering of Saudi women academics demanded authorities to encourage lingerie shops to provide jobs for women thus expediting implementation of the Cabinet's decision to limit the job to women. Reem Asad, a professor at Dar Al-Hekma College, who organized the economic awareness symposium, demanded enforcement of the Cabinet decision on lingerie shops. She pointed out that women are the main consumers of lingerie and had the right to be able to deal with female sales personnel. Asad said that the sale of women's clothes in the Kingdom amounted to $3 billion in 2005, which she attributed to the growth in the population and the fact that women are increasingly attracted by global brands, which is a result of the openness of global markets.
