Saudi Cricket Center (SCC) has launched the first-ever national cricket championship in the Kingdom. But for the inter-city matches among the cricket associations of different regions, Saudi Arabia has not witnessed a national championship in this game. Backed by Dilse, a prepaid mobile line, SCC has rolled out this ambitious project dubbed as “Dilse T20 Championship” in all the six regions. While giving details on the project at a launching ceremony, Nadeem Nadwi, Chief Executive Officer of SCC, said that about 100 teams with the registration of over 1400 players would be vying for honors at six regions for the next 8 to 10 weeks. Officials from Dilse, SCC, including Hasan Kabir, Vice Chairman of SCC, office-bearers from the six regional associations, which are affiliated to SCC, and several other well-wishers graced the meeting. The championship, which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis after the pattern of Indian Premier League (IPL), will showcase the final round in Jeddah. Eight teams – six regional winners plus the two best-placed sides of all the regions – will fight for the trophy here. The matches will be played at 24 grounds spread over Jeddah, Yanbu, Madina, Abha, Gizan, Riyadh and Dammam. Speaking at the gathering, Dharam Kapoor, GM, Impact Proximity, thanked the officials from SCC and the six regional associations – Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA), Yanbu Cricket Association (YACA), Southern Province Cricket Association (SPCA), Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA), Eastern Province Cricket Association (EPCA) and Madina Cricket League (MCL) – for their support and presence during the ceremony. Kapoor, who graced the meeting along with his colleagues Amir Habib and Nazir Yakub, appreciated the efforts of his cricket-crazy colleague Habib for this ambitious project. Kapoor further sought the cooperation of SCC and the regional associations to make this a big success so that Dilse be encouraged to come again with another program and solid support. Besides the trophies for the winner and runner-up, several other awards are at stake. Outstanding players in all the aspects of the game will be rewarded. __
