Saudi Arabia's Danube Company Limited received the International Star Award for Quality (ISAQ) in the Golden Category at the recently held 33rd International BID (Business Initiative Directions) Quality Convention Geneva 2008. The award represents success for the Kingdom in the business world and reflects the magnitude of Danube's internationally recognized achievements in quality, leadership, customer satisfaction, technology and innovations. And as a manifestation of its continuing commitment to serve best its customers, Danube has already made big plans for this year, notably the shopping festivals such as summer festival and back to school feast, Ramadan and Haj seasons grand festivals. The company operates pastry shops, restaurants and catering services apart from its popular chain of supermarkets and hypermarkets in the Kingdom. On an average, over 40,000 thousand customers are served daily in its stores. The Geneva Convention aimed at recognizing commitment of quality to awarded companies whose activities cover the top areas of industrial production and services. The awards presentation took place on Oct. 27, 2008 in the Convention Hall of the Intercontinental Geneva.Khalid Al-Darwish and Dawood Bindawood, deputy general manger and operation manager of Danube, respectively, received the award from Jose E. Prieto, executive president and CEO of BID. Danube was established in 1987 with a vision of providing the best service and the highest quality of products to the consumers. It started with a single shop of delicatessen products, and then opened a number of pastry and bakeshops in a short period of time. Consistent with its vision, Danube has grown with its venture in the supermarket and hypermarket retail industry. In 2005 the first Danube hypermarket was opened at the newly built Serafi Megamall in Jeddah. In the following year, the second hypermarket was launched at Hayat Mall in Riyadh. Early this year another Danube Hypermarket was in operation at the fabulous Redsea Mall along the Corniche Road of Jeddah. At present there are three Danube Hypermarkets, five Danube Supermarkets, five restaurants, catering services and more than 16 pastry shops. Since 2001, the Bindawood Group of Companies acquired majority shares in Danube. This established Bindawood and Danube as one of the largest retail chain in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia. Under the Bindawood banner are 16 supermarkets, hypermarkets and department stores.
