Two dozen supermarkets and 14 stores in Jeddah have been fined SR48,600 for breaching health standards. The violations, which were discovered by the General Administration of Licenses and Commercial Control at Jeddah Municipality, included the selling of expired and damaged food products, employing staff with no health certificates or expired certificates, refreezing thawed meats, failure to provide labels distinguishing between frozen and cold meat, failure to renew shop licenses, poor hygiene, failure to cover garbage containers, and violating regulations governing the transfer, storage and packaging of food products. Fines were also imposed for assisting violating workers in escaping the authorities. Investigators also found food items with no product details, date of production or expiry date on them. Following its investigations, the municipality destroyed 300 kg of frozen and cold meat and 250 kg of expired labnah milk.
