Mother's Day, which was recently celebrated in many Arab countries, was the inspiration for a song and music video released here by a Saudi rap group. The well-known Saudi hip-hop singer Qusai – better known as Don Legend – who is the leader of the rap group “Jeddah Legends” released a new song entitled “Mother” to mark the day. A music video of the song, which is on the group's latest album, “The Kamelion”, was released on Mother's Day, March 21. Previous music videos by Don Legend, including a song depicting the traditional Saudi wedding, were aired on the MBC channel in 2008. The “Mother” video was shot in Jeddah and the lyrics are a flow of poetry in both Arabic and English in the hip hop and rap style with a combination of western and Arabic melodies. “I wrote this song to touch the hearts of mothers and at the same time to urge everyone to show deep reverence towards them,” said Qusai. “I want this song to be a tribute to all the mothers of the world and especially to our mothers here in the Kingdom.” Jeddah Legend was formed by Qusai, who is a musician and DJ born in Riyadh and raised in Jeddah. He is currently working on his own hip hop program which will soon be aired on the Wanasa channel and plans to release his second album with Platinum Records by the end of this year.
