South African President Tambo Mbeki on Sunday opened the 118th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Saudi Arabia's delegation is led by Chairman of the Shoura (Consultative) Council Dr. Saleh Bin Abdullah Bin Humaid. Dr. Bin Humaid also led the Saudi delegation to the consultative meeting of the Arab group participating in the meeting. Representatives of more than 130 parliaments around the world are participating in the assembly. The speakers at the inaugural session underlined the importance of parliamentary work, saying that “it positively contributes to enhancing relations among countries and enhances global peace and security.” Dr. Bin Humaid also led the Saudi delegation to the coordination meeting of members of the parliaments of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member states. __
