Dr. Daggubati Venkateshwara Rao, the elder son-in-law of Telugu Desam founder NT Rama Rao, has written a tell-all book detailing the coup against the patriarch by some of the family members including the other son in law N Chandrababu Naidu. The book, “The other side of the truth” mainly focused on the incidents of late August, 1995 when Chandrababu Naidu led NTR's two sons N Harikrishna and N Balakrishna and majority of the TDP legislator in a revolt against NTR and deposed him from power and the party leadership. The book was originally written in Telugu under the title of “Oka Chartira-Konni Nijalu” (A history – some facts) but never released. “I will release both the versions after elections when things cool down”, said Venkateshwara Rao. Venkateshwara Rao unveiled the books before the media couple of days after making his letter addressed to Balakrishna public. The letter has created a stir in the state politics as it has brought to light the intensity of NTR's hatred for Naidu after the coup. Venkateshwara Rao has made sensational revelation that in his last days NTR had asked his son Balakrishna to “murder” Chandrababu Naidu for what he had done to him (NTR) and show him the blood stained sword. Venkateshwara Rao rejected the allegation that he wrote the letter to Balakrishna at the behest of the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy or the Congress party. “I had written the letter on Feb. 1 and if I had wanted I could have released it at the time only. I wrote it because it was my responsibility to remind Balakrishna about the past”, he said. Quoting from his unpublished book Venkateshwara Rao said that during the conspiracy to topple NTR, he was dragged to Viceroy Hotel in Hyderabad by Naidu and his two brothers in law.
