A car belonging to a Saudi Arabian Embassy official was destroyed in an arson attack in Athens early Monday. No injuries or casualties were reported in the attack in which small cooking gas canisters exploded underneath the parked vehicle in the northern suburb of Halandri. “A Saudi diplomat woke up at 1:20 a.m. hearing noises from outside his apartment. When he went out to see what was going on, he found his car burning and fire trucks around it,” Saudi embassy Charge d'Affaires Ahmed Almolhem told Saudi Gazette on the phone without divulging the name of the Saudi diplomat whose car was attacked. “It was a deliberate attack,” he said. “The Greek government had similar experiences in the past and usually there were local organizations behind these attacks,” he said. “These local organizations have nothing against Saudi Arabia,” the diplomat said. An anarchist group calling itself Cells of Subversion claimed responsibility for the attack in a telephone call to a private television station in Athens. Arson gangs frequently carry out attacks in the Greek capital, targeting cars and property of banks, government department, embassies and international companies. – With agencies __
