Willie Miller drained a pressure-packed three-point shot to lift the Alaska Aces to an 82-81 squeaker over the slumping defending champion Barangay Ginebra Kings in the main game of Friday night's Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference double-header at the Araneta Coliseum. The win was just the second for Alaska in five games. The loss sent Ginebra crashing into the bottom of the standings in the company of the Coca-Cola Tigers and the Barako Bull E-Boosters, all with a 1-4 win-loss slate. With Alaska trailing by two, 81-79, with 7.6 seconds remaining in the game, Miller coolly fired a looping step-back trey over the outstretched arms of Ronald Tubid that hit its mark. Ginebra head coach Jong Uichico immediately called a timeout to design one final play. However, the Kings' top gunners, Jayjay Helterbrand and import Rod Nealy, were fully covered by the Alaska defense and the ball ended up in the hands of Chico Lanete who threw up an ill-advised three-point shot that clanked off the iron. Miller scored 10 of his 18 points in the last two minutes of play as the Aces overhauled an eight-point Ginebra lead in the homestretch. Alaska played the game without Jeffrey Cariaso, Tony dela Cruz and Brandon Cablay while Ginebra was missing Eric Menk, Junthy Valenzuela and Mark Caguioa. In the first game, the Burger King Whoppers thrashed the Coca-Cola Tigers, 127-109, to cruise to their second straight victory and fourth overall in six games – good for solo second in the standings behind the pacesetting San Miguel Beermen (5-0). Gary David scored 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting while Arwind Santos chipped in 24 points and seven rebounds as the Whoppers practically toyed with the Tigers. Burger King ripped the game wide open in the third quarter when the Whoppers outscored the Tigers, 41-28. The Tigers suffered their third consecutive defeat in five games for a 1-4 (win
