King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has ordered that a 10-year-old Jordanian girl be rushed to receive medical treatment for obesity in a specialist Saudi hospital. In response to an appeal by the patient on Al-Arabia TV, the Monarch ordered that the patient, weighing around 145 kg, be admitted to Riyadh-based King Khalid University Hospital. The hospital accommodates the only clinic in the Middle East which specializes in the treatment of obesity and the world's sole research chair on child and youth obesity. Eighty percent of the doctors at the clinic are Saudi nationals.
