Amoudi, breast cancer specialist, was honored at a British Council function held here recently as part of International Women's Day celebrations. The honor came in appreciation of the role Dr. Al-Amoudi has played in making women aware of the importance of early examinations for breast cancer and her continuous efforts in the service of Saudi women. In 2007, then US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave Dr. Al-Amoudi an award in recognition of her selection as the most courageous woman in Saudi Arabia and one of the eight most courageous women in the world. Dr. Al-Amoudi, an obstetrician, gynecologist and assistant professor at King Abdulaziz University, was given the award in a first of its kind ceremony entitled “International Women of Courage” in Washington. Hiba Jamal, presenter of the popular Kalam Nawaem program on MBC channel was also present at the British Council function. Lina Showq Nasir, manager of the social development program, praised the great achievements of Saudi women in all fields especially in their contribution to family care and the development of society. Dr. Al-Amoudi emphasized the importance of examinations for breast cancer pointing out that early detection increases the chances of complete recovery by at least 97 percent. Jamal said that although women have attained high positions in society, they still face several hardships which act as barriers in realizing their goals and ambitious. It is incumbent on society, she said, to remove these obstacles and pave the way for the advancement of women in all the fields.
