The “Encyclopedia of Moderate Shariah Terms” was launched on Tuesday in Riyadh in a bid to set out the meanings of Shariah terms related to moderation and to correct misconceptions about moderation in Islam. The Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Chair for Islamic Studies at King Saud University, launched the encyclopedia at a cost of SR12 million. Chair supervisor Khalid Abdullah Al-Qassim said the encyclopedia, compiled by 32 scientists and academics, would be distributed for free. Al-Qassim expects it to be finished within a year. “Research will be conducted over the next six months and will include 900 current issues in all fields,” Al-Qassim said. “The invitation is open to universities and Islamic centers for contributions to the encyclopedia.” Research will be divided into seven sections, including moderation in thinking and understanding, proselytizing for Islam and its methods, international relationships, civilian and urban issues, and educational and psychological issues.
