The Labor Office in Makkah is looking into the case of a Saudi who was fired from his hotel job and replaced by an expatriate at double the salary. Muslih Salih Al-Sulaimi, who worked as a supervisor, claims that the Egyptian hotel manager treated him as a rival because of his qualifications and fired him. The post was then given to another Egyptian at twice the pay. “I took my complaint to the Saudization Committee at the Labor Office, explaining that the hotel manager had faked my attendance records and changed the date of my appointment to the job so as to include my name on the list of trainees,” Al-Sulaimi said. “All my Saudi colleagues were treated in such a way that they felt themselves forced out of their jobs,” he said, adding, “The manager was forever saying: ‘There is no qualified Saudi!'” Al-Sulaimi asked to be given his job back, but the management suggested that further problems would ensue, twice offering him two months' salary to leave, with Al-Sulaimi refusing each time.
