day family festival organized by Saliha schools with the cooperation of the Women's Welfare Society, Jeddah is providing an opportunity for needy families to earn a living by promoting their homemade products. “The main aim of this festival, which began on Sunday, is to help needy families display their products to the public and earn some money by marketing them,” said Nisreen Ali Al-Edrissi, general manager of the Women's Welfare Society. “We also want the community to come forward and participate in charity work,” she said, adding, “We want students to take part in social work and understand the value of voluntary work and the importance of helping others in the community.” “Students also need to learn about different kinds of charity,” she said, “because some people think that charity only means giving food or money.” “When you help people by buying things from them,” she explained, “you are not only providing them with a source of income, but you are also encouraging the production of high quality Saudi products.” The festival includes a number of stalls with displays of different homemade products, such as, food, toys, jewelry, fashion accessories, etc. Students of Saliha schools presented a cultural show in celebration of “Arabian Day” by showing Saudi culture, tradition and heritage with their costumes, paintings and drawings. A quiz program was also held. The Women's Welfare Society also helps families maintain the quality of their products. “The festival is displaying many things of excellent quality which are not available in the market. It is an excellent way to make the public aware of homemade products and at the same time help families which are producing the products. Many people will discover that they have hidden talents and when they help themselves by developing their skills, they will also be helping the Saudi community,” said Lila Ageel, a Saudi businesswoman participating in the festival.
