Saudi Arabia is not interfering in the internal political affairs of Pakistan and is not supporting any party in the ongoing crisis, Ali Awaad Assiri, Saudi Ambassador to Islamabad, has said. At the same time, he said, Saudi Arabia is exerting all its efforts for the unity and stability of Pakistan. Riyadh, he said, is keeping a close eye on the political developments in Pakistan and hope that all parties there exercise restraint and act with wisdom and prudence for the good of their own country. Assiri was reacting to concerns in a section of the society that Saudi Arabia was not playing an active role in diffusing the crisis in Pakistan. “Riyadh will never ever give up its responsibilities regarding Islamabad. King Abdullah is following up the developments of the situation between Pakistan People's Party and the opposition. The King has assigned Prince Miqren Bin Abdul Aziz, chief of the General Intelligence, as his personal envoy to carry a fraternal message to all political parties explaining the importance of considering the highest interests of the country,” Assiri said over phone. Prince Miqren, he said, had recently met with leaders of different political parties in the presence of Prime Minister Yusuf Gilani and delivered to them the King's message assuring them Kingdom's keenness on Pakistan's security and stability. The King's message stressed that the current challenges require wisdom, political unity and positive contribution rather than confrontation, he said.
