Nawaz Sharif is a strong supporter of the free judiciary movement in Pakistan and the restoration of Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmad. On 12 May 2008, he stated that the deposed judges sacked under President Musharraf's emergency rule in November, would be reinstated, and met PPP's Asif Ali Zardari to discuss the official date of reinstatement. The meetings dissolved, and Nawaz announced that he was effectively resigning from the coalition government. __
