Kur Mountain road leading to Taif will be ready in four months, Mufarrah Al-Zahrani, Director in the Ministry of Transport, has said. The SR2.18 billion project to expand the road began four years ago and since then it has been closed to traffic causing inconvenience to motorists who have been forced to take Sail Highway, the only available route to Taif. The expansion of the road was essential to minimize the possibilities of accidents or of vehicles falling into the valley. The project is taking a long time to complete mainly because of the presence of solid rocks. Explosives are being used to dismantle these rocks and powerful explosions led to the collapse of the only bridge on Hada Road. This bridge was supported with long columns of reinforced concrete with a deep valley on one side. The reconstruction of the bridge was a great task with 500 skilled and unskilled workers along with 13 engineers and six consultant engineers being employed on the project, said Al-Zahrani. The road's width on each side is 10 meters and 15 centimeters and it will allow three tracks on each side and provide for the easy flow of traffic. A very strong wall has been built to prevent vehicles from falling into the valley while taking sharp turns. The total length of the road from Al-Kur to Hada Bridge is 25 km. The work has reached its final stage and will be completed soon.
