The Summary Court here has taken an undertaking from an Egyptian doctor, who was accused of stripping a 12-year-old girl under the pretext of medically examining her, not to repeat the irregularity. The girl had come to the doctor's clinic complaining of throat inflammation. The doctor claimed that it was necessary for him to ascertain whether the girl had attained puberty. Initially, the General Prosecutor banned the doctor from traveling abroad and referred the case to the Summary Court. After taking opinion of several medical practitioners and in the absence of a strong evidence, the court decided in favor of just taking an undertaking from the doctor. The girl's father is far from satisfied and has decided to appeal. The same court has issued two verdicts in child sexual abuse cases within the last week including 15-day imprisonment against an Indian national who was charged with sexually abusing a 7-year-old boy in a mosque during prayer. The defendant said he was only trying to correct the boy's position and did not mean to touch him improperly. Both the defendant and the plaintiff were not satisfied with the verdict and decided to appeal. In a similar case, the court sentenced a 45-year-old Saudi to 4 months in jail on a charge of abusing a 9-year-old girl. In Makkah, a judicial committee at the General Court has issued a verdict involving two years in prison for each of Ibrahim, 18, and Nasr, 17, for their attempt to rape an elementary school student. The prosecution demands the death penalty as the two were identified by the victim out of tens of people in a lineup.
