The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology will begin taking registrations for websites that wish to participate in the 4th Digital Distinction Award for 2008. Registration will begin on Saturday, April 19, and will run for five weeks. The ministry has instituted the award to encourage initiatives aimed at enriching Arab digital content and spreading awareness of the importance of creating distinguished Arabic sites to serve the community. The award will branch out into eight areas: governmental websites, websites of civil community institutions, finance and business websites, websites of educational institutions, health and medical websites, information websites and cultural websites. The websites nominated for the award will be evaluated according to three criteria: technical aspects (15 percent,) general aspects (30 percent) and content (55 percent.) Although the ministry has set certain standards for websites to be eligible for the competition, running for the award is open to all. Registration and details can be found at the link to the ministry's website, www.mcit.gov.sa __
