The Ministry of Health has approved funds for the construction of three new health facilities in Jeddah, including a 300-bed mental hospital at a cost of SR250 million, a center for tuberculosis treatment, and a high-rise “medical tower” building at the Ophthalmology Hospital. Dr. Sami Badawood, Director of Jeddah Health Affairs, said work would be completed in the next two years, providing 1,800 new beds, surgical operation rooms and ICU facilities. In other ongoing works, the new diabetes center on the grounds of King Abdul Aziz Hospital in north Jeddah is near to completion, while works continue on a 300-bed hospital in Al-Suleimania District, a medical tower at King Fahd Hospital with 200 beds, and another medical tower in Al-Mossaidiya with 300 beds.
