The Makkah mayoralty has undertaken several projects for the expansion of the roads leading to the Grand Mosque, Mayor Dr. Osama Fadhl Al-Bar has said. These projects, worth a billion riyals, will make possible the easy flow of traffic, Dr. Al-Bar, who is also a member of the Central Haj Committee, said. The project of a circular railway track connecting the holy sites has also been finalized, he said. This second major project is on the 4th Ring Road around Makkah. Starting in the south from Ibrahim Al-Juffali Street the railway leads to a flyover connecting to Jabl Thur Street running further in the same direction. Another flyover will connect it to Ibrahim Khalil Street in the vicinity of the Grand Mosque. From this flyover, the track runs west and connects to Al-Laith Highway. Completing its run in the west, it turns gradually to the north and connects to a flyover on Makkah Al-Madina Al-Hijrah Highway. Its final terminal is on Al-Maisam Street connecting the holy sites from both the south and the east. The railway will have three tracks on each side, explained Al-Bar. Another project under implementation is New Street having a double track in the region of Al-Khalediya, running through an area where the land is earmarked for warehouses. This will connect Makkah-Jeddah Expressway at Baniyan Petrol Station. For providing pleasure excursions to the resident of Makkah, two big parks are being built, in the Nawariya and Al-Khalediya areas. The parks will have playgrounds, grassy lawns, toilets and mosques, said Al-Bar. He said the main task of the municipality is to provide a clean and hygienic atmosphere eliminating any possibility of the spread of disease. The municipality arranges all the facilities available to visitors and residents throughout the city. It maintains all the roads, tunnels, lighting arrangements and abattoirs. For this purpose it has employed a thousand skilled and unskilled workers and supervisors.
