The General Court here will look into yet another separation case against a married couple for “lack of compatibility of origin”, Wednesday. The case was filed by the wife's family who had previously taken the husband to court on the charge of having kidnapped the woman, though all he had done was legally marry her. The husband, Aamer, has filed a counter case accusing the wife's brothers of threatening to kill him for refusing to revoke the marriage. Aamer claims the problems arose only after his wife refused to give her brothers a power of attorney over inheritance of their father's property abroad. “This is why they filed a case of separation against me, under the pretext that I am not a descendant of a tribe,” Aamer said. The wife, Wafa'a, said she had left her family house in Madina and gone to her husband in Jeddah because her brothers had thrown her out and threatened to kill her as she would not give them the power of attorney. In a similar case of “lack of compatibility of origin” more than two years ago, the Court of Appeals in Riyadh approved a verdict by the Al-Jouf Court separating a couple, Fatima and Mansour who had two children, Noha, 4, and Sulaiman, 2. Another such case was dismissed by the General Court in Al-Khobar earlier this year.
