A new English medium school offering the Indian syllabus plans to employ “smart board” technology as a teaching aid. Future Generation International School (FGIS), which is due to open soon in Jeddah, aims to additionally bring to the classroom modern technologies like multimedia, language lab and the Internet. The idea is to make the teaching/learning process active and effective, according to an announcement made by the school's advisory committee members during a press conference here this week. “Smart board” technology is an innovative teaching aid introduced in modern day high-tech schools. The touch sensitive board enables the teacher to write or draw on it using numerous built-in tools, and interact with the students through their desktop computers. The “smart board” also has an elaborate encyclopaedia from which the teacher can call information and photos digitally at the touch of a finger. Several Saudi schools have already employed the “smart board” technology. The FGIS advisers are V. P. Mohammed Ali, Prof. K. Mohammed, Assainar Angadippuram, Mohammed Ali Chundakkadan, Moosakoya Pulikkal, Veeran Kutty and Naeem Chinthaveettil. __
