Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has received a leadership award from Columbia University. The talk show host received the 2009 Klingenstein Leadership Award Friday for her philanthropy in education and promotion of reading. The award is given by The Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership at Teachers College at Columbia University. In 2007, Winfrey opened the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. The center says Oprah's Angel Network has helped open 60 schools in 13 countries while her foundation has awarded hundreds of grants and scholarships. Oprah's Book Club has propelled dozens of books onto best-seller lists. The center says its director presented the award to Winfrey in Chicago.
