The health of Hassan and Mahmoud, the Egyptian conjoined twins successfully separated on Saturday, has been improving, said Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Minister of Health and head of the Multidisciplinary Surgical Team at King Abdul Aziz Medical City here. After 38 hours of successful separation, the twins continue to do well. Their vital organs are stable and there is no evidence of any infection, Dr. Rabeeah said in a statement on Tuesday. Mahmoud is making progress faster than his brother Hassan, he said. Mahmoud wakes up, opens his eyes and moves his arms. The medical team has begun reducing the use of the artificial respirator, and he (Mahmoud) is expected to be taken off the respirator within the coming 24 hours, the statement said. Hassan requires more intravenous fluid and is recovering more slowly. He is showing movement of his extremities but requires more sedation and closer monitoring. However, the medical team is optimistic that he will start to improve within the coming few days The twins' parents expressed happiness while watching their children's progress.
