Thunderstorms hit the Eastern Province Saturday night, flooding several areas in and around Dammam, Al-Khobar, Qatif, Saihath and Al-Hassa The light to moderate rains continued Sunday morning and the Met department forecast partially cloudy skies with a chance of rain in the coming days. The minimum temperature recorded was 14°C in the Dhahran area. Despite the flooding, residents welcomed the first showers after a dry spell of about 18 months. “Rain can be either good or bad,” said Saudi national, Ali Hussain who resides in the Saihath area and works for a local trading company in Al-Khobar. “It's a relief from the unhealthy weather. This rain is definitely a blessing and a clear sign of a switch to the summer season.” Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, another Saudi man, was thrilled and said he was planning to take a week off to spend in a desert near the airport. He said he has been longing for the rain. “Rain makes the desert sand thick and solid, and it's really fun out there,” he said.
