The Urdu language book “Muskrahton ki Ott Say” (“From Behind the Smiles”) is another gift from Pakistani writer Qudsia Nadeem Lali for the Pakistani community. The interplay between human emotions and sharp observations in the book gels well with the touch of South-Asian society and its traditions.
The book was launched on February 18 at the Spinzer (Lasani) restaurant in Jeddah. This is Qudsia's first book after writing in an Urdu language magazine and newspaper for the last three years, as well as dabbling in poetry. “I am very thankful to my readers, Editor Rauf Tahir and Naseem Saher of Daira-e-Adab and Shehab for admiring and praising my writings and pushing me to write a book for the sake of the community,” she said.
Urdu language readers can now read a book in Urdu which highlights social issues and their solutions in a critical, but humorous manner. “In this book - which is my first publication - I wrote about the social problems and cultural changes in our society. I criticized them in a funny way so that people understand them without anyone getting hurt,” commented Qudsia. “Whatever is written in this book is my personal experience, I didn't take any impression from fiction and unreal things,” she explained. According to Qudsia, our society has forgotten the values of our culture and traditions, and the importance of expressing love and care towards our country and people, and she addresses this lapse in her book. “This book is a symbol of my love and affection towards my language and society, culture and religion,” added Qudsia. “I think it's better to take action instead of speaking. We always talk about the destruction of our cultural values but don't do anything practically to stop it or to make people aware about their actions and the effect on our society, “explained Qudsia on what motivated her to write this book.
The book launch was organized by the Urdu magazine Shehab's Editor, the renowned writer and poet Naseem Sahar with the cooperation of the Pakistani community. Three of Qudsia's books are in the pipeline from which one - “Suraj Hath Main” (“Sun in my Hand”)
