A medical committee formed by the General Directorate of Health in Makkah discovered serious labor violations at the Laith General Hospital. The committee, which had been formed to look into the possibility of spinning off the hospital into a self-sustaining unit, discovered that there were two Bangladeshi nurses working at the hospital's emergency with their residence permits (iqamas) stating that they are cleaners. The committee is also further investigating a resident doctor of an Arab nationality working at the hospital, after having suspicions about his credentials. The hospital's management justified the employment of the two certified nurses in capacities of cleaners with the long, time-consuming formalities and procedures. The committee had also found that that night shift directors working in the hospital were just intermediate or secondary graduates, though they should be physicians. The Committee ordered the hospital's management to employ expatriate doctors to serve as night shift directors if there is no possibility of employing national physicians. __
