Authorities investigating the car allegedly seen plunging into Jeddah's Arbaeen Lake with passengers aboard have given up their search. “No trace of a car has been found,” said Colonel Muhammed Al-Qahtani, Director of Traffic Administration in Jeddah. Al-Qahtani now believes that the information which started an intensive investigation into the fate of the vehicle and its passengers was false. “The search has revealed nothing,” he said, “and no missing person report has been filed with any police station in Jeddah.” “Further to that,” Al-Qahtani continued, “police stations in Jeddah have confirmed that no report had been received concerning a stolen car of the same model which was thought to have fallen into the lake.” The search was temporarily called off last week as authorities awaited a geological report, after divers had conducted a week-long search for the Lexus car that a witness claimed he had seen plunge into the water following an accident on the lake's flyover. Other witnesses close to the scene maintained that no such thing occurred and described the original witness's version of events as a “figment of the imagination.”
