five islands in Al-Laith are destined to become centers of tourism, authorities in the region say. “These islands have great potential to become hubs of tourist attraction with the necessary investment in services,” said Nasir Al-Mut'eb, the new president of Al-Laith Municipality. “The islands are very popular with divers because of their beautiful scenery both underwater and above ground.” Al-Mut'eb said his focus would be on providing basic infrastructure services to residents of the region. “The most urgent needs are asphalt roads and street lighting,” Al-Mut'eb said. “We are also looking closely at the distribution of grants.” Al-Mut'eb declined to comment on reports of corruption in Al-Laith Municipality. “I'll do my best to serve the people of the governorate,” he said. The municipality's low budget, he said, would not be regarded as an obstacle to the realization of projects in Al-Laith. “We should make the most of our available budget first and later on we can ask for budget increases according to our future needs,” he said. Al-Mut'eb previously worked at the Beriman Municipality in Jeddah where he oversaw the successful removal of more than 1,200,000 sq. meters of illegal buildings.
