US top seed Andy Roddick captured his first title of the season, defeating Czech fifth seed Radek Stepanek 7-5, 7-5 here Sunday in the final of the ATP hardcourt tournament. Roddick fired eight aces, one more than Stepanek, to claim his 27th career crown and a $300,000 top prize. It was the second Memphis title for Roddick, who also won the event in 2002. Sixth-ranked Roddick, a semifinalist or better in his four starts this year, improved to 5-1 lifetime against 21st-rated Stepanek, who was seeking his second title in as many weeks after taking the San Jose tournament last week. Stepanek, who had not lost a set this week, fell to 16-3 this season, still the best start of the 30-year-old's career. Victoria Azarenka of Belarus had claimed her second title of the season Saturday beating top-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki 6-1, 6-3. Tsonga wins Marseille In France, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga claimed his second ATP title of the year by beating fellow Frenchman Michael Llodra 7-5, 7-6 in the final of the Marseille Open on Sunday. Fourth-seeded Tsonga, who won the South African Open two weeks ago, kept his cool under pressure from Llodra at the net to seal victory in one hour 43 minutes. “He puts you under a lot of pressure,” Tsonga told reporters. “It's quite hard to stay focused and hit passing shots.” “He was stronger, today,” said Llodra. “It was down to a few points, I did not serve well enough.” Robredo wins Copa Telmex In Argentina, Tommy Robredo beat Argentine Juan Monaco 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (5) in the final of the Copa Telmex on Sunday to secure his second tournament title in as many weeks.
