An Afghan immigrant will not go to jail despite being found guilty of manslaughter in the death of pop singer Nasrat Parsa in 2005, a judge said Friday. Ahmad Seiar Froogh, 22, was sentenced to two years of house arrest and three years of probation for the killing of Parsa, an Afghan pop singer. Judge Geoffrey Gaul said Froogh, who pled guilty to manslaughter in 2008, was being punished for committing a dangerous act, not for killing Parsa. Froogh and his friends followed Parsa to his hotel to get an autograph after they had attended a concert by the pop star in Vancouver. At the hotel, Froogh approached Parsa and, for reasons unclear, suddenly punched the 35-year-old singer in the head, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs. The singer died four days later of a brain injury. The singer's death was a huge blow to the Afghan community around the world. Parsa, who was born in Kabul, had released 10 albums since he started recording in 1989. He made his home in Germany in recent years and had been in Canada promoting his latest collection.
