The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) is to present awards to outstanding nationals of the OIC member states in the field of science and technology. In information made available to Saudi Gazette here on Saturday, Dr. Anwar Nasim, science adviser, said that applications are invited from the scientists of the OIC region under the following four categories – Young Scientist Award, Best Scientific Book Award, Best Research Paper Award, and Award for Patent. He said that besides a certificate, all the categories carry a cash prize of $3,000 each. The last date to apply for entering the competition is April 30, 2009 for which the contesting scientists are required to send in an application to COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad, Pakistan on a prescribed format available at www.comstech.org. More information can be had from him, at the [email protected] e-mail. Nasim explained that the Young Scientist Award is for scientists under the age of 40. The Best Scientific Book Award recognizes the work done in any of the COMSTECH/OIC official languages, i.e. English, French and Arabic and published by any renowned international publisher. The Best Research Paper Award is for original research published in a well-reputed international journal. The Patent Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to their respective field of discovery that have had lasting impact in furthering the theory or development of commercial systems.
