A network of 13 Sudanese which faked the papers and chassis numbers of stolen cars to smuggle them across the Red Sea and into Sudan has been rounded up by police. The network, led by a man in his forties, rented export and shipping offices at the seaport, and used a number of courtyards in the Mada'en Al-Fahad district of Jeddah to house the cars before they were smuggled to Sudan. Having received information concerning the group's activities, the Criminal Investigation Department staked out the yards and discovered they were blurring the chassis and changing the plate numbers of the stolen cars. “The police found numerous boxes containing spare parts. The stolen cars were smuggled out in pieces,” police said, adding that the vehicles were destined for sale in Sudan on installment.
