A family of eight perished when their GMC collided with the rear of a truck on the Riyadh-Taif Highway near Al-Hawamyat area Tuesday, authorities said. The family members – parents, five daughters, and one three-year-old grand-daughter – were on their way to spend the one-week school break starting Wednesday in the central region of the Kingdom. Only the young driver of the GMC survived the crash and was taken to Afif Hospital. The truck driver also sustained injuries and was transferred to a hospital. The eight were pronounced dead at the scene. The three-year-old girl was found dead on her dead mother's lap. It was not clear yet what caused the crash.
