Authorities continued their search Saturday for a Lexus car that was believed to have plunged into Arbaeen Lake early Friday morning after crashing with another Lexus on the flyover. The front bumper of the Lexus which hit the concrete barrier but did not fall into the murky lake was recovered Saturday. The 30 divers taking part in the search operation on Saturday found it difficult to search for the car at the dark and dirty bottom of the lake which is filled with waste materials. A source at the Coast Guard said that they approached the Jeddah Islamic Port for the use of their cranes to help to recover the car, but some officers were doubtful fearing that the bodies in the car might be deformed or even be swept into the sea if the car was not carefully removed from the water. Chief of the Jeddah Traffic Department, Brig. Gen. Muhammad Al-Qahtani, said there seemed to be a trench in the lake, deep enough to swallow the car. The trench is located at the spot where an eyewitness said he saw the car fall into the water. The eyewitness is an important part of the case and the Traffic Department has officially registered his testimony. The Coast Guard have acted on the eyewitness's account by searching the lake for the alleged submerged vehicle.
