Ahli Jeddah recorded its second win in the 11th Asian Clubs Handball Championship after beating Al-Najma of Bahrain 19-15 at the Indoor Hall of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare(GPYW) here Friday. The win put hosts Al-Ahli on top of Group C with six points, five points ahead of its nearest rival Al-Sadd of Lebanon which was defeated by Al-Ahli in their opener game on Thursday. Al-Ahli's Egyptian importers Mohammed Al-Resha and Ahmed Al-Ahmer were instrumental in their team's second victory. Al-Ahli ended the first half leading 6-5. Al-Ahmer said that the defending style of Al-Najama in the first half posed some trouble. “After the break, we knew how to deal with that and we organized our squad to win the game,” Al-Ahmer said. In another match, Al-Fehaheel of Kuwait won its first match in the competition by beating Al-Salat of Jordan 26-24 at the same venue. It was the second defeat for the Jordanian team in Group D after it lost the first match 35-24 at the hands of Al-Noor of Saudi Arabia. Despite the defeat, Al-Salat's performance was better but the Kuwaiti team clinched it in the last minute. The first half saw a 12-12 tie. “Our real show will be in the next match against Al-Noor,” Al-Fehaheel coach Saeed Hijzai said. Al-Noor and Al-Fehaheel have three points and they share the top spot in Group D. Al-Salat coach Essam Al-Sahar believed that the defeat ended his team's run. In the third match, Al-Ahli of Qatar also recorded its second win with a 34-33 decision against Al-Sadaqa of Lebanon. The Lebanese side led 20-13 and stormed after the break but failed to maintain the tempo, allowing Al-Ahli seal the win. In the last match, Al-Sadd of Qatar won 33-22 against Al-Jaish of Iraq.
