Nearly 60 percent of the work on the SR95 million three projects to prevent hazards from the sewage lake in eastern Jeddah has been completed, a senior Jeddah Mayoralty official said. Muhammad Abdul Aziz Al-Tamimi, Adviser to the Mayor for Construction and Projects and Executive Director for Urgent Projects, said the objective of these projects is to provide the best immediate solutions needed to stop the rising water level in the sewage lake due to the increasing wastewater from the city Jeddah. Al-Tamimi said execution of the projects started last October and it will take at least six more months to complete. The projects include construction of a pipeline to pump water from the treatment plant into the rain water drainage network at a cost of SR35 million and two pipelines for pumping water from the treatment plant into the Haramain Highway surroundings for irrigation purposes at a cost of SR35 million. The Mayoralty had earlier announced its plans to plant trees along the roadside, in addition to a project for planting an area of 6 million sq. meters at a cost of SR25 million. Work on the projects has been progressing as scheduled, Al-Tamimi said. The pipeline projects will carry water after going through wastewater treatment membrane processes, already used for irrigating trees and green areas, including the recently inaugurated human-made forest in eastern Jeddah. The Mayoralty will also make use of this technology to pump treated water from the future airport and Khumrah plants to Wadi Al-Asla projects and the green belt in eastern Jeddah. A green landscape area of the green belt project has been deigned to cover 120 million sq. meters. These three urgent projects come to splash the green in Wadi Al-Asla and turn the arid area into a lively one. The third project, which is being carried out, will provide 15 types of durable plants for a demanding landscape of six million sq. meters, including natural insect repellent plants and aromatic trees to form a natural extension of the eastern forest that will be tendered next April. The eastern forest project is planned to cover an area of 8 million sq. meters to provide an integrated green landscape with the Mayoralty's projects, east of the Haramain Highway. It will include a Safari Park, a national recreation park and a farmers' village, Al
